The Interisland Tennis Championships were first held in the Islands in the 1900s, taking a few breaks here and there, and with the help of Ron Seno and Hattie Somerville, the event reappeared in the early 90s at the Royal Waikoloan. The last known winner of the Championships was the Big Island in 1993. They closely edged out Oahu with Maui coming in a close third.
"It was a great weekend of tennis,” said tournament director Cheryl Shrum. “With the support of Holua Tennis Center, local sponsors and a fantastic group of volunteers, we pulled off a successful inaugural tournament and look forward to building it into one of Hawaii’s premier events. If this year is any indication, we’re off to a good start. ”
